Les Miles believes Kansas football 'going to put it together' - 247Sports
Kansas football fell, 55-14, to in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday. By itself, Saturday's loss would have been memorable. In context, it's caused some uneasiness among fans of the Jayhawks.
The program is off to an 0-5 start to the season and 0-4 start in Big 12 play. The loss was also the Jayhawks' 12th-consecutive defeat against the Wildcats.
In its latest loss, Kansas allowed 35 unanswered points to the Wildcats and killed any momentum in the game with repeated mistakes on both offense and special teams. K-State scored three non-offensive touchdowns in the game with one coming on an interception return and two coming in the punt return game.
After the game, KU coach Les Miles was asked how he views his team — and state of the program — with the losses piling up.

“We’re a good football team,” said Miles. “We’ve got talent, good coaches. We are going to put it together. When you see glimpses of how it’s run, where it looks extremely functional and efficient, you can see the guys. Mason Fairchild made a great series of catches. He’s a young sophomore. That’s just an example.”
He continued.
“I think we’re at a time frame where we’re a little nicked at the perimeter," Miles added. "When we get healthy, I think that somebody will find a very talented team that is ready to play and that is hopefully this Saturday we’re about to play.”
This season Kansas has lost each of its games by at least 15 points. Its closest game came against Coastal Carolina in the season opener, a 38-23 loss. The Jayhawks' average margin of defeat this season is 30 points. The 55 points scored by K-State on Saturday were the most points scored by the Wildcats in their now-12-game winning streak against Kansas.
Compiling blowout losses throughout a season can wear on the psyche of players, but those who spoke after Saturday's game maintained a positive attitude. Two, in fact, were asked a fairly straightforward question: What would they say to Kansas fans who are frustrated with the state of the program?

“I would tell [fans] stick with us. We got five games left,” said safety Ricky Thomas. “We’re going to give it our all. We've got more work to do.”
Senior linebacker Kyron Johnson had a similar message.
“Just keep chopping wood.” said Johnson of the Jayhawks' approach. “There are situations that are almost similar to life. There are situations where we have to come back. And trust me, we’re getting there. We are improving.”
The Jayhawks will next take the field on Saturday against Iowa State. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. from Lawrence.
