Les Miles gives injury update on Kansas RB Pooka Williams - 247Sports
Pooka Williams was limited — presumably due to injury — in the Jayhawks' loss to Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
After carrying the ball 22 times for 99 rushing yards in his first game against the Chanticleers — back in 2019 — Williams totaled only 12 carries for 67 yards (5.6 yards per attempt) in the 2020 meeting, a 38-23 KU loss.
Williams did appear in other plays, as he was used as either a blocker or a decoy. But his use significantly decreased as the game progressed.
KU coach Les Miles was asked for an injury update after the game.
A reporter asked: "Do you know what happened to Pooka?"
"Playing football," Miles responded.
Another reporter asked if he could elaborate.

"Don't get mad," Miles responded. "Pooka has got a nick and I suspect he'll be back relatively quickly."
So then, there wasn't much of a full update beyond calling the injury a "nick," though quarterback Miles Kendrick also spoke on Williams playing through injury.
"Pooka is a tough runner," Kendrick said. "That's just a part of football. I think he'll be fine. He'll be back and up and running very soon."
Even hampered by injury, Williams still forced eight missed tackles on his 12 carries, a mark good enough for first in the nation according to Pro Football Focus.

Williams, of course, has had a prolific first two seasons with the Jayhawks, rushing for 1,125 yards as a freshman (7.0 yards per carry) and 1,042 yards as a sophomore (5.1 YPC). To date, Williams has totaled 15 total touchdowns, with 10 of them coming on the ground and four coming through the air. The other touchdown came on a trick play in Williams' freshman season, when he completed a pass against Oklahoma for a score.
In that contest against the Sooners, Williams totaled 270 yards from scrimmage with three total touchdowns. He had 15 carries for 252 yards (16.8 yards per attempt), as well as three catches for 18 yards.

Other notable games in Williams' Kansas tenure include a pair of non-conference contests from his freshman season. Williams made his college debut against Central Michigan on the road, rushing for 125 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns. The next game, in a blowout win over Rutgers, he totaled 163 rushing yards on 19 carries with another touchdown.
Williams ended his freshman year with a 16-carry, 103-yard performance against Texas, adding one more score.
Notable games from Williams' sophomore season included a 121-yard rushing effort (one touchdown) against Boston College, a 190-yard rushing effort (two touchdowns) at Texas and a 154-yard rushing effort (one receiving touchdown) against Iowa State.
