July 6, 1949 ~ May 24, 2021

Leslie “Les” Monroe Elkins, 71, of Pryor, departed from this life on Monday, May 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 6, 1949 in Roswell, New Mexico; the son of Jesse Monroe Elkins and Iva Dell (Hammonds) Elkins. Les faithfully served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1974. He was a true patriot, he was a faithful voter and an avid Trump fan. On occasion, he would even call congressmen to voice his opinions and concerns. Sometimes he would voice his opinions on Facebook and have to wait out Facebook jail. Les married the absolute love of his life, Linda, on December 1, 1972 and they have spent the last 49 years together. In his younger years, Les was an incredible athlete and set records in track and football that have yet to be beat. He also broke horses and was a true ‘cowboys cowboy.’ Les enjoyed watching John Wayne marathons on the weekends, and even watched Disney movies on repeat. Les was a true family man and an absolute momma’s boy. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family to cherish and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services for Les will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 at the First Church of God with Pastor Neil Oldham officiating.  Burial will be held at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma with Taylor Elkins, TJ Elkins, Jacob Hastings, Austin Hershberger, Arthur Robbins, and Billy Rabbit serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Jeremy Hastings, Dustin Thornton, Randy Smith, Mike Blaylock, Allen Matlock, and Donald J. Trump.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. To leave his family a message, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Shipman’s Funeral & Cremation Service.

Les is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; mother, Iva, of Pryor, Oklahoma; sons, Jerry Elkins and wife Trisha Elkins of Grove, Oklahoma, James Elkins and wife Melissa of Oxford, CT, and Jesse Elkins and wife Gabby of Pryor, Oklahoma; daughter, Golda Hastings and Jeremy of Yukon, Oklahoma; brother, Jesse Elkins and wife Sherrie of Ottumwa, IA; sisters, Lena French and husband Bill of Duncanville, TX and Lenneice Marshall of Pryor, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Jesse Elkins; grandmother, Golda Elkins; and paternal grandfather, Roy Elkins; maternal grandparents, Dan and Iva Hammonds
