Dit Scoops Quality Assurance Award - New Vision
The Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo and Minister for public service Muruuli Mukasa each received an award for the best personality of the year 2020.
The awarding ceremony was presided over by Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi at Kampala Serena Hotel on Thursday (December 3, 2020).
QUALITY|ASSURANCE|AWARD
KAMPALA - The Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) has been recognized as the best quality assurance body in the business, technical, vocational and training in the ministry of education and sports.
It is among the over 30 government and private entities recognised and awarded by The Visionaries of Uganda Advisory Board for their tremendous work in aiding the country to achieve Vision 2040.
Addressing journalists in Kampala on the milestone, the DIT director Patrick Byakatonda, said the directorate has contributed a lot towards achieving Vision 2040.
"The numbers of people being assessed and certified are increasing. The other year we had 45000 and this year we have 62000," he said.
On the other contributions, Byakatonda said it is DIT that assesses the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), the National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC) and the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA).
In the service sector, we launched the curriculum for hotel industries and we are also working with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). But also our performance as an organization is improving every year," Byakatonda said.
DIT is also working with NWSC in reviewing the training curriculum to be used in assessing its workers.
The review programme according to DIT principal qualifications officer, Safina Nakyobe is on five areas which include water quality technicians, treatment plant operators, sewage service technicians, sludge treatment plant operators, and adult learning facilitators.

Ssekandi said Uganda's economy was growing fast as a result of good leadership, peace and security ushered in by the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He disclosed that the private sector led economy is fully addressing the lack of essential commodities and guaranteed macro economic stability.
"Prior to the coming into power of the NRM, the country's economy had collapsed following the expulsion of the Indian community in 1972," he said.
The Visionaries of Uganda organised the annual awards in partnership with the National Planning Authority under the theme; "Celebrating Dynamic Leadership and Strengthening the Fundamentals of the Economy to Realise the Uganda Vision 2040."
The National Drug Authority (NDA) was recognized as the best visionary, health government regulatory agency of the year.
The secretary to the Authority, Dr. David Nahamya said award to NDA was not by mistake since in the financial year 2019/2020, there was successful implementation of measures that supported NDA core regulatory functions, which benefited the country in improving access and availability of human, veterinary and other health care products.
Among the others who were recognized included B plus Uganda that emerged as the best furniture company in Uganda, Case Clinic as the best health care provider, Uganda Printing and Publishing company as the best government printing agency and Pearl Dairy as the best dairy processing company.
