LES students choose kindness - Lincoln Sentinel
Each Friday, LES counselor Sawyer Ptacek, sees each class at LES for a 30-minute character education lesson focusing on a variety of emotional character development topics aimed at increasing students’ social, emotional and learning skills.
Ptacek turned to the topic of kindness on Nov. 6, preparing the students for World Kindness Day on Nov. 13. World Kindness Day is an international holiday established in 1998 to promote kindness throughout the world.
In 1997, several institutions and associations based around the world met in Tokyo because of their dedication to championing kindness in society. The initial configuration of the World Kindness Movement was a result of this event with the written declaration of their inception stating their “pledge to join together to build a kinder and more compassionate world.” In pursuit of this mission, the observance day was established the following year.
