Kansas Football: Les Miles reports zero positive COVID-19 tests - Through the Phog
Kansas football head coach Les Miles revealed that the Jayhawks have zero positive COVID-19 as the Baylor game approaches.
On Wednesday, head coach Les Miles confirmed zero positive COVID-19 cases for the entire Kansas football team. The news was announced on “Hawk Talk”, a local show featuring Coach Miles and presented by Kansas Athletics.
The announcement comes after regular testing of the last 7 days had produced a 3.38 positive test rate. Despite the slight increase of cases on campus, the football team did not see any increase in their testing. This should improve their chances of playing on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
The announcement understandably brought quite a bit of positivity into the room. Coach Miles would go on to discuss the role coaches have, not only in the Big 12, but across college athletics in regards to making decisions that strongly impact the team: “I think it’s imperative that head coaches, as best as you can pick, you pick quality people.”
Kansas is in good hands with Les Miles, not only in his ability to respond week after week in practice but in keeping the morale in the locker room throughout the pandemic. Considering the significant number of changes the NCAA and Big 12 have seen over the last 6 months, it’s people like Les Miles that play a pivotal role in allowing these teams to continue to play.
The Jayhawks are set to play in Waco, Texas this Saturday at 6:30 PM. The uneasy numbers coming out of the Lone Star State are not necessarily promising though. The skeptical thinking comes from Baylor’s 74 active cases on campus, although with the right precautions, there should be a solid level of confidence that we’ll see both teams take the field this weekend.
