Can you survive on a diet that contains only beef? According to some people, you can and you should try.
However, according to nutritionists, don’t.
All-Beef Diet
Thankfully, this rising all-beef diet is more of a fad than an actual recommended diet strategy for most people, despite having a number of supports that are pretty prominent. In fact, it’s barely a diet, and just sounds like a man liking beef too much and deciding to base his diet around that. Furthermone, unlike other actual diet options that are more meat-heavy, it also presents no scientific backing of any sort. There’s also the fact that most of its believers are minor celebrities who merely base the diet off of their own personal anecdotes and experiences.
Per Johanna DiStefano, a biochemist and head of the Diabetes and Fibrotic Disease Unit at the Translational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix, following an all-beef diet simply doesn’t even come near to the actual nutritional content that we need in order to survive.
"That is the dumbest question I have heard in a long time," DiStefano said, responding to a question of whether only eating beef is enough to sustain a human being. "One thing that studies show us over and over is that eating more plants, eating more of a plant-based diet, is associated with improvements in glucose homeostasis and hypertension and lipid levels."
There’s also the fact that eating a lot of beef would make you more susceptible to developing a wide variety of health risks. As a matter of fact, the most significant source of dangerous cholesterol are animal fats, and so cutting back on it can give you a healthier body. So if you want healthier cholesterol readings, healthier blood pressure and a blood sugar that’s more stable, better incorporate some more greens into that diet.
Better yet, include a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and whole foods to make sure you’re getting the most out of your health.
"One of the benefits of eating a diet that's diverse is that you're covering all your nutritional bases. You're getting your vitamin C. You're getting your vitamin A. You're getting other vitamins and minerals and nutrients that your body needs to function optimally," DiStefano added.
