Get fit with Pound
The Little Falls Family YMCA is offering Pound, a modern day exercise fusion of movement and music. Drum along to a slammin sound track using ripstix — weighted drumsticks designed to transform drumming into an exhilarating, fat burning, full body interval workout.
Classes are ongoing from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the lower level Community Co-op, 589 E. Albany St. Use the William Street entrance.
Pound will be instructed by certified Instructors Cheryl Liddon, Danielle Petkovsek and Katy Trombley.

Fall session of
Spin–Tervals offered
Little Falls Family YMCA, 15 Jackson St., is offering a new session of Spin-Tervals.
The program takes place from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays with instructor Dawn Zitoli, combining indoor cycling, full body strengthening and an abdominal workout.
This class is designed to give you a calorie burning, full cardio workout at the same time increasing muscle strength and endurance.

Janis earns
Eagle Scout rank
Max Janis of Boy Scout Troop 1 earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of Brian and Gina Janis.
His project was to create an information kiosk for the Frankfort Hilltop Athletic Park. The kiosk includes a location map of the park featuring its fields and buildings. It also contains a board for sports groups and organizations to post information.
Any local boy at least 11 years old or has completed the fifth grade and is interested in becoming a member of Troop 1, call Scoutmaster Lewis Licari at 315-894-4157 or attend an upcoming troop meeting with a parent. The troop meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Village Office gym.

Food Sense

Registration for the Food Sense program will take place at the following sites:
* From 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 13, at First Presbyterian Church, 90 Morgan St., Ilion.
* From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, through Thursday, Oct. 12, at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, 228 Crosby Blvd., Old Forge.
The price is $20.50. The delivery date for both sites is Friday, Oct. 27.
The projected list of foods includes boneless pork chops, beef and broccoli, chicken drumsticks, breaded fish sticks, ground turkey, pierogies, chicken noodle soup, frozen carrots, applesauce, brownie mix and two fresh produce items. Specials may be ordered separately.

Healthy Eating Habits classes for seniors
Healthy Eating Habits Classes for those ages 50 and older will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays for 10 weeks beginning Oct. 3, in the Community Room at the Oliver Apartments, 124 Cooper St.
Instructor Carol Nettleton, program coordinator at the Office of Aging, will teach participants how to improve eating habits that fit their lifestyle, how to choose the balance of right foods for optimal health, set realistic goals and rewards and cope with triggers for unhealthy eating.

Notre Dame, UCA, DeSales Classes of 1977 plan reunion
The Classes of 1977 from Notre Dame, Utica Catholic Academy and St. Francis DeSales are celebrating its 40th Class Reunion from Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8.
Staff and teachers from both schools from 1973-1977 are welcome to attend and receive a complimentary dinner.
A meet and greet will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Cavallo’s Cork Room. The main event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Elks Lodge, 1315 Champlain Ave., Utica, featuring an Italian buffet, cash bar and music. Registration and cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. A brunch will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Holiday Inn on Burrstone Road, New Hartford. Columbus Day Information Sessions
Mohawk Valley Community College will host three Admissions Information Sessions on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9, in the Admissions Office in Payne Hall.
The sessions are planned around the Columbus Day holiday, which many prospective students have off from school and work. MVCC is open for classes and business that day.
During your visit, you will meet with an admissions counselor, discuss financial aid options and scholarships, learn about the College’s 90-plus academic programs, Hawk Athletics and more. Tours of campus and the residence halls will be available.

Caregiver support group to begin
The Mohawk Valley Health System is hosting a free seven-week program with Oncology Social Worker Alexandra Battista.
The program will run from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, from Oct. 4, through Nov. 15, at the Faxton Campus, 1676 Sunset Ave. in the Cancer Center’s TV Lounge on the main floor.
The program will help caregivers, family and friends with stress management and coping skills, as well as how to avoid burnout and how to practice self care. Participants will learn from others, teach others and know that they are not alone.

Shredding and plastics collection
The city of Sherrill is hosting a free shredding and plastics collection from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Transfer Station, 210 Elmwood Place.
Bring any paper that needs to be shredded including folders and envelopes. There is no need to remove paper clips or staples.
Acceptable plastics include beverage crates, clean plastic drums, totes, empty garbage cans, plastic buckets/pails, toys, tool and gun cases, plant/propagation trays and flower pots, pallets and shelving, laundry baskets, lawn furniture, pet carriers, cat litter containers, recycling bins and carts, and water jugs.
Items not accepted include plastic bags, film, Styrofoam, plastic appliances, vinyl siding, water hoses, toys with circuit boards or battery packs, pool/chemical containers, driveway sealant containers, paint cans and motor oil containers.

The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood or platelets during National Preparedness Month in September to help ensure the Red Cross is prepared to respond to patient emergencies.

FORT PLAIN
Bus trip to Philadelphia
The Fort Plain Museum is hosting a fundraising bus trip to Philadelphia to visit the new Museum of the American Revolution and Independence Hall. The trip, originally planned for Sept. 16, has been changed to Saturday, Nov. 4.
The cost is $95. Registration is required by Oct. 6. The bus will depart at 5:30 a.m. from Amsterdam with additional pick-up locations in Albany and the Lower Hudson Valley. This fundraiser will support the construction of the museum's new research library.
