Weight-loss firm makes apparent Stamford exit

STAMFORD — A Connecticut weight-loss business appears to be slimming down its brick-and-mortar operations.

A for-lease sign has been posted in the front window of the 1,000-square-foot Slim Nation center at 1012 Hope St., an establishment that opened last December. The Stamford space hosted one-on-one consultations and group sessions. Its apparent departure represents one of several recent changes to the commercial corridor of the city’s Springdale section.

Messages left Friday for Slim Nation’s Stamford and corporate numbers and the property’s listing firm, Plaza Realty and Management Corp., were not returned.

Slim Nation is headquartered in Groton, and its website also lists locations in Rocky Hill and Wallingford.

Slim Nation co-founder Rob Nevins, a sports nutritionist and personal trainer, said in an interview last year that in the past 30 years he has helped some 50,000 clients in Connecticut and other parts of the country lose weight with his “Living Lean” eating principles.

“There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all diet,” Nevins said. “We always say that generic diets give you generic results. Every plan is completely custom tailored. And it’s all about food. The answer is in the supermarket.”

The Slim Nation regimens follow three-day cycles: two days of fat burning followed by a slightly higher carbohydrate intake on the third day.

Slim Nation serves a range of clients, from those looking to lose 10 pounds to others who are aiming to drop more than 100 pounds. The age of customers spans from teenagers to octogenarians.

Springdale’s commercial district has seen a number of changes in recent months. An Express Kitchens opened a showroom in an approximately 3,000-square-foot building at 1011 Hope St. Across the street, Beanz Coffee debuted in June at 1032 Hope St.

A Deadlocked Escape Room adventure-puzzle center is scheduled to open later this year at 1000 Hope St.
