LES Van Gogh Exhibit Seeks Approval for Onsite ‘Absinthe Bar’ at Pier 36 - Bowery Boogie

The “Immersive Van Gogh Experience” at Pier 36 is underway. As are plans for an on-site drinking experience.
This past weekend was the so-called soft-launch, with the exhibit available for press and community previews. Crowds flocked to the 70,000 square-foot pavilion on South Street (also known as Basketball City) to view the much-anticipated happening.

On the heels on this feat comes news that the museum curators plan to impart a fifteen-table “Absinthe Bar,” according to Community Board 3 application materials. Plans call for a full bar and menu to match, with selections like BBQ pork ribs, fried chicken and potato salad. The SLA Subcommittee will hear the pitch at its meeting tonight.
As for the experience itself, hype is high. Visitors at Pier 36 will interact nearly 100 projectors displaying moving images of Van Gogh’s classic artwork across the interior, and magnified by mirrors and music).
