Longtime Lorain and Amherst police officer Les George dies - The Morning Journal
Longtime Lorain and Amherst police officer Les George, who dedicated over half a century to law enforcement, has died.
George, who served a total of about 50 years between the Lorain police and Amherst police departments, died Feb. 17 at the age of 77, according to a Facebook posts from both departments.
He had served as a police officer from 1966 to 1999 in Lorain, and garnered a positive reputation with both the community he served and officers he served with, the posts read.
It continued that "He was a dedicated officer that served as the traffic commissioner, firearms instructor, FOP president, and as a narcotics detective."
George then joined the Amherst Police Department, where he served as a part-time patrolman from 2001 to 2018.
"Les always kept going, and going, and going, despite what life threw at him," the posts read. "Those who new him best understood he brought joy to those around him, and his work ethic and heart for service was second to none.
"We could all learn from his example."
