Hillsborough renames life center for retired Commissioner Les Miller Jr. - Tampa Bay Times
TAMPA — Hillsborough County is rechristening one of its recreation centers after retired Commissioner Les Miller Jr.
Miller, who left his commission seat this week after 10 years because of term limits, will now have his name affixed to the Lesley “Les” Miller Jr. All People’s Community Park and Life Center.
The 45,000-square-foot gymnasium opened on East Sligh Avenue in 2007 and specializes in serving people with disabilities.
The motion to rename the center, to become effective Dec.1, came from Commissioner Ken Hagan who lauded Miller’s career and his commitment to parks and recreation.
“You’ve been a steady hand a voice of reason on this board during some very challenging and difficult times,” Hagan told Miller, “As a youth sports and parks guy, I’ve always appreciated the parks projects you have championed in your district.”
Those included, Hagan said, baseball fields at Progress Village, Belmont Heights Little League, the Rubin Padgett Sports Complex and the Lucy Dell Community Pond.
Renaming the All People’s Community Life Center after Miller represents the retired commissioner’s “lifetime of service to make Hillsborough County a better place to live, work and play,” Hagan said.
