Leslie Allen 'Les' Campbell (1953-2020) | Obituaries - Albia Newspapers
Leslie Allen Campbell passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at his home at the Rehab Center of Des Moines, under the care of Unity Point Hospice.
Les was born Oct. 14, 1953 to Louis and Lucille (Porter) Campbell in Ottumwa. The family later moved from Ottumwa to Hedrick, where Les graduated with the class of 1972.
On Aug. 3, 1974 he married Wanda Allison. They had one daughter, Tabitha (Jeromy) Metier and two sons, Matthew and Joshua (Heather) Campbell. Les and Wanda later divorced in 1997.
Les worked at Lucas County Health Center and Wapello Co. Aubulance Service. He attended IHCC and graduated with the LPN class of 1977. In 1984 he bought out the two local funeral home ambulances and started Monroe County Ambulance Service. He upgraded the service to paramedic level, and along with his crew, made a difference in a lot of Monroe County people’s lives. In the mid 90s the service became part of Monroe County Hospital.
Les loved music of all kinds. He was an avid reader of sci-fi fiction and collected both books and movies. But he loved flying! After he got his pilot’s license he enjoyed flying planes as parachuters jumped out.
He is survived by his children, Tabitha, Matthew and Joshua; grandchildren; Erin Metier, Bryce Metier, Jacob Campbell, Elisabeth Campell and Nathan Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wishes, he was cremated and there will be no funeral.
