Weight loss can be hard to achieve, especially in autumn with the days getting shorter and weather getting colder.

It also doesn’t help that so many diet plans exist, but one diet plan offers faster weight-loss results than most.

The keto diet has soared in popularity, offering a quick, simple method for Britons to lose weight.

The diet works by sending the body into ketosis, a state when the body burns its own fat stores for energy.

How it works

The keto, or ketogenic, diet is loved by beautiful models and celebrities all over the world.

The diet downs by lowering the body’s level of insulin - the fat storing hormone.

Resulting in weight being shed fast, the diet plan works by sending the body into ketosis, a state which can be reached by simply cutting out carbs and embarking on a high-fat diet.

This switch in eating habits eliminates the body’s usual source of energy - carbs.

With carbs out of the picture, the body then uses its own stories and existing fat for energy, burning the fat at a rapid speed.

Once the body enters the state of ketosis, the liver uses the body’s fatty acids to make molecules called ketones to burn for fuel.

Celebrities like Halle Berry, Kourtney Kardashian, Megan Fox, Vanessa Hudgens and Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima are all said to be followers of the diet.

What to eat

While the keto diet sounds similar to the high-fat Atkins diet and other low carb plans, it doesn’t have a set meal plan or stages.

This means it is much easier to follow and see through, with followers having just a few rules to follow.

The main rule is, of course, low carb, high fat, and the diet calls on followers to eat less than 20g of carbohydrates a day.

This means foods such as red meat, double cream, hard cheese, mayonnaise, eggs and butter are all on the allowed list.

Other foods to eat on the keto diet include oily fish, avocado, veggies, fruit and other meat - such as chicken, sausages and bacon.

To properly achieve ketosis and begin burning fat quickly, the diet should be 80-90 per cent fat.

Focusing on fatty foods like avocado and dairy will make this easier to achieve, and combined with exercises will see great results.

Another way to speed up weight loss is by consuming apple cider vinegar. 

The liquid contains a certain type of acid which is known to promote weight loss and give plenty of health benefits.
