How to lose weight: Five healthy foods that burn stubborn belly fat and boost metabolism

Eating healthy foods and exercising is the best way to stay in shape, but there are certain ways you can “trick” your body into burning more fat.

Several natural foods and beverages have been shown to increase your metabolism and promote fat loss.

Some foods even have a high thermogenic effect, meaning you burn more calories chewing the food than you actually consume.

Here are five :

1. Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, have been shown to help burn body fat.

In a study of 44 adults, those who took fish oil supplements lost an average of 1.1lbs of fat and experienced a drop in cortisol, a stress hormone that's associated with fat storage.

Fish is also a great source of lean protein. Protein makes you feel fuller for longer, boosts metabolism and changes numerous weight-regulating hormones.

Salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel are all high in omega-3.

2. Eggs

Another great source of protein, eggs have been shown to help aid .

Studies have shown people who eat eggs for breakfast, feel fuller longer and so consume fewer calories throughout the day.

In one study of 21 men, those who ate eggs for breakfast consumed 400 fewer calories per day and had a 16% greater reduction in body fat, than those who had bagels for brekkie.

3. Green tea

Drinking four cups of green tea a day helped people shed more than 6lbs in eight weeks, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports.

This is because the nutrient-rich tea contains EGG, a compound that temporarily speeds up your metabolism.

4. Chilli Peppers

These little fruits pack a punch and add flavour to your food, but they also help increase metabolic rate.

This in turn speeds up fat-burning and helps you shift those pesky pounds.

Research suggest an antioxidant in chilli peppers called capsaicin may help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

It does this by promoting fullness and preventing overeating. However, a study published in the National Institute of Health found it can actually help your body burn off more calories too.

5. Greek yogurt

Full-fat Greek yogurt contains conjugated linoleic acid, which promotes weight loss and fat burning in overweight and obese people, according to research that includes a large review of 18 studies.

The high-protein dairy product is also a great source of calcium and can boost fat burn and protect muscle during weight loss

Nutritionist Franziska Spritzler also revealed – meaning it’s very beneficial for those suffering from diabetes.
